Head injuries are among the leading causes of disability and death in adults. The damage may be minor, such as a bump or bruise, or may be severe, such as a concussion, open wound, skull fracture, or brain damage.
A skull fracture is defined as a break in the cranial bone (skull) caused by an impact or blow to the head. Symptoms may include swelling and tenderness around the point of impact, facial bruising, and/or bleeding from the nostrils or ears.
Skull fractures are classified as closed fractures, open fractures, depressed fractures, and basal fractures based on the force of the blow, the location of the impact on the skull, and the shape of the object striking the head.
Treatment for a skull fracture is determined by a number of factors, including age, health, and medical history, as well as the type of fracture, its severity, and any resulting brain injuries. Surgery may be required if there is cerebrospinal fluid leakage or if the depression puts pressure on the brain.
Mr. Suresh from Telangana successfully received treatment for a depressed skull fracture at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. K. V. Shivanand Reddy, Consultant Neurosurgeon.
