Diaphragm paralysis is a medical condition characterized by the partial or complete loss of function of the diaphragm muscle, which is responsible for breathing. This condition can be caused by a variety of factors, including nerve damage, trauma, or certain diseases.
VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery) diaphragm plication is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that is performed under general anesthesia. During the procedure, the surgeon makes small incisions in the chest wall and uses a video camera and special instruments to access the diaphragm. The surgeon then sutures the diaphragm muscle to restore its function, thereby improving the patient’s breathing capacity.
The recovery time varies depending on the individual patient and the extent of the surgical procedure. Patients can expect to stay in the hospital for a few days after the surgery to monitor their breathing and pain levels. The patient will be encouraged to perform deep breathing exercises to improve lung function and prevent complications such as pneumonia.
Mr. Mohammed Khaja Abdul Rashed from Nanded successfully underwent the VATS Diaphragm Plication Procedure at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Manjunath Bale, Consultant Robotic and Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgeon.
