Laparoscopic Ladd’s surgery is a minimally invasive surgical procedure performed to treat intestinal malrotation in paediatric patients. Malrotation refers to an abnormal positioning or fixation of the intestines during foetal development, which can lead to complications such as volvulus (twisting) and obstruction.
During the procedure, the surgeon uses a laparoscope, which is a thin tube with a camera, to visualize and correct the anatomical abnormalities in the intestines. By restoring normal intestinal anatomy, laparoscopic Ladd’s surgery helps alleviate symptoms, prevents potential complications, and allows for normal digestion and bowel function.
This approach offers several advantages over traditional open surgery, including minimal scarring and reduced post-operative pain and discomfort, leading to a faster recovery and a shorter hospital stay. However, as with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks, including infection, bleeding, and post-surgical complications.
A. Gnanadeepak from Kodad successfully underwent Laparoscopic Ladd’s Surgery at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. D. S. Sai Babu, Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist and Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary-Surgeon.
