Uterine cancer, also known as endometrial cancer, refers to the abnormal and uncontrolled growth of cells in the lining of the uterus (endometrium).
A total abdominal hysterectomy is a surgical procedure performed to treat uterine cancer. It involves the removal of the uterus, cervix, and sometimes the fallopian tubes and ovaries. During the surgery, an incision is made in the lower abdomen, and the uterus and other affected structures are carefully removed. Lymph nodes in the pelvic area may also be examined for signs of cancer.
Patients may experience pain, swelling, and discomfort following the procedure, which can be managed with pain medications. Depending on the individual’s progress, the hospital stay typically ranges from a few days to a week, and full recovery may take several weeks or months.
Mrs. J. Bharathi from Hyderabad successfully underwent Total Abdominal Hysterectomy for Uterine Cancer at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Shaik Saleem, Consultant Surgical Oncologist.
