FAQ’S
How long is a radical nephrectomy surgery?

It is possible that the operation will take three hours or more. Open kidney removal or simple nephrectomy: the patient will be lying flat on the back. The surgeon will make a 12 inch or 30 centimetre (cm) long incision (cut).

What kind of doctor treats kidney cancer?

The following physicians are normally on the health-care team for kidney cancer:

  • Urologist: A doctor who specialises in treating genitourinary tract diseases including the kidneys, bladder, genitals, prostate, and testicles.
  • Urologic oncologist is a doctor who specialises in the treatment of urinary tract cancers.
  • Medical oncologist: A doctor who has been qualified to treat cancer with medication-based therapies.
  • Radiation oncologist: A doctor who specialises in using radiation therapy to treat cancer. If radiation treatment is recommended, this doctor will be a member of the team.
How long does it take to recover from a radical nephrectomy?

Kidney removal usually takes 3 to 6 weeks to recover from. The patient may experience symptoms such as abdominal pain or pain on the side where the kidney was removed. The pain should subside in a few days to a week.

What can I expect after a radical nephrectomy?

Expect to receive instructions on diet and activity constraints before leaving the hospital after the operation. You may be encouraged to begin light, daily activities as soon as you feel ready, but for several weeks, you must avoid strenuous exercise or heavy lifting.

What are the complications of nephrectomy?

Every surgery comes with its own set of risks and complications. The following are some of the risks associated with nephrectomy surgery:

  • Infection
