What is Hemorrhoid Surgery?
In a haemorrhoidectomy, a laser cauterization technique is used to safely burn and remove either extensive or severely swollen veins in the anus. Alternatively, the surgeon may use a precise laser to treat haemorrhoids and avoid the nearby tissues.
Patients who need haemorrhoidectomy surgery to remove either external or internal haemorrhoids include patients who have thrombosed, strangulated, or mixed haemorrhoids; patients with a family history; someone who experienced strained bowel movements; and postural pressure for sitting for longer hours.
Types of Hemorrhoidectomy
There are two subtypes of laser haemorrhoidectomy, which include haemorrhoidal laser procedure (HeLP) and laser hemorrhoidoplasty (LHP). Apart from the laser method, there are four other types of Haemorrhoidectomy surgeries:
- Milligan-Morgan (open haemorrhoidectomy)
- Stapled hemorrhoidopexy
- Ferguson (closed haemorrhoidectomy)
- Infrared or electrical coagulation.
