Patient Testimonial for Total Knee Replacement Surgery

Testimonial by Mr. Sashanka Sekhar Chatterjee

Osteoarthritis is caused by the slow destruction of the protective cartilage that covers the ends of the bones. Although it can affect any joint, it most frequently affects the hands, knees, hips, and spine.

Knee replacement is a surgical procedure that is performed to replace a damaged or worn-out knee joint with an artificial joint. This is typically done when conservative treatments, such as medication or physical therapy, are no longer effective at reducing pain or improving mobility.

During a procedure, the surgeon will make an incision over the knee joint and remove the damaged bone and cartilage. They will then shape the remaining bone to fit the artificial joint components, which are typically made of metal and plastic. The new joint is then attached to the remaining bone using specialized cement, and the incision is closed.

Patients will spend a few days in the hospital after the surgery to manage pain and monitor for complications. After leaving the hospital, patients will typically participate in physical therapy to help regain strength and range of motion in the knee joint. This may involve exercises, stretching, and walking with the aid of crutches or a walker. Recovery from a knee replacement can take several weeks to several months.

Mr. Sashanka Sekhar Chatterjee from West Bengal successfully underwent a Total Knee Replacement Surgery at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Manoj Chakravorthy, Consultant Orthopedic Joint Replacement & Arthroscopic Surgeon.
