The 24-hour pH Impedance Testing is a diagnostic procedure that evaluates acid and non-acid reflux in the oesophagus. It measures the frequency and volume of reflux and determines if it’s causing symptoms or damaging the oesophagus. Typically, the procedure is used to diagnose gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or other esophageal disorders.
During the test, a small catheter with sensors is placed through the nose and into the oesophagus to measure the pH and impedance of the esophageal contents. Patients are asked to keep a diary of their symptoms and activities during the 24-hour testing period. The results of the test are analysed to determine the frequency and severity of acid and non-acid reflux.
The recovery period after the test is quick and uncomplicated. Patients may experience slight discomfort or irritation in the nose and throat during the catheter insertion and removal, and they may have some temporary difficulty swallowing or speaking during the testing period.
Mrs. Mankhushi Mandal from West Bengal underwent 24-Hour pH Impedance Testing for Evaluating Acid and Non-Acid Reflux under the supervision of Dr. Adi Rakesh Kumar, Consultant Gastroenterologist, Therapeutic Endoscopist & Endosonologist at Yashoda Hospitals.
