What is HoLEP Surgery?
Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate, commonly called HoLEP, is a prostate surgery that is similar to an open procedure and does not require any incisions. This is an effective treatment option for the enlarged prostate, known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is a minimally invasive procedure to treat the enlarged prostate. HoLEP preserves tissue removed for laboratory examination for other conditions, including prostate cancer.
The procedure involves using a laser to remove prostate tissue that blocks urine flow, followed by cutting the tissue into easily removable fragments. HoLEP, like other prostate laser surgeries, offers faster recovery and symptom relief compared to traditional prostate surgery methods.
