Testimonial by Ms. Keerthana Belli

Paraquat poisoning is a severe medical emergency caused by exposure to a highly toxic herbicide, paraquat. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and difficulty swallowing. The most severe effects occur in the lungs, leading to ARDS, difficulty breathing, low blood oxygen levels, and fluid accumulation. The poison can also damage organs like the kidneys and liver. There is no specific antidote for paraquat poisoning, so treatment focuses on supportive care and protecting vital organs. Due to its high toxicity and high mortality rate, paraquat poisoning is a significant public health concern, emphasizing the need for strict regulations and safe handling practices.

Stem cells and exosomes have shown promise as potential therapies for paraquat poisoning in preclinical studies. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) can reduce inflammation, inhibit oxidative stress, promote tissue repair, and modulate the immune response. Exosomes, tiny vesicles containing bioactive molecules, have shown promising results in animal models of paraquat poisoning, reducing lung inflammation, inhibiting fibrosis, and improving lung and kidney function.

Ms. Keerthana Belli from Khammam successfully received treatment for Paraquat Poisoning at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Sri Karan Uddesh Tanugula, Consultant General Physician.
