Patient Testimonial for Ureteroscopic Lithotripsy and Double J Stenting for Pyelonephritis and Hydronephrosis

Testimonial by Mr. Srinivasa Raju

Pyelonephritis, a type of urinary tract infection, is the inflammation of the kidneys caused by a bacterial infection. The infection usually starts in the urethra or bladder and spreads to the kidneys. Symptoms include fever, frequent urination, and back or groin pain. Treatment may include antibiotics and analgesics and often requires hospitalisation.

Hydronephrosis is a condition in which fluid accumulates in the kidney as a result of a ureter blockage (the tube connecting the kidney to the bladder). Symptoms include difficulty urinating and abdominal or groin pain, which can be caused by kidney stones, bacterial infection, an enlarged prostate gland, the presence of a blood clot, or a tumour.

Ureteroscopic Lithotripsy (URSL) is a minimally invasive procedure for treating kidney stones that are too large to pass through the urine. It is performed using a ureteroscope and works by directing focused ultrasonic energy or shock waves at the stones, breaking them up into smaller pieces. The stones can then pass easily through the urinary tract. Double-J ureteral stents are thin tubes that are placed inside the ureter to prevent or treat obstruction of the kidney’s urine flow.

Mr. Srinivasa Raju, from Anantapur, successfully underwent Ureteroscopic Lithotripsy and Double J Stenting for Pyelonephritis and Hydronephrosis at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. N. Tushar Ram Rao, Consultant General Physician & Critical Care.
