Patient Testimonial for Bilateral Knee Replacement Surgery

Testimonial by Mr. K. Rama Krishna

Osteoarthritis develops as a result of the gradual deterioration of the protective cartilage that shields the ends of the bones. It can affect any joint, however it is most usually found in the hands, knees, hips, and spine. Bilateral knee replacement surgery is a surgical procedure that resurfaces both arthritis-damaged knees in a single session. The ends of the bones that form the knee joint are capped with metal and plastic parts.

A knee incision is made to start the treatment. After removing the knee joint’s damaged surfaces, he replaces them with a metal or plastic prosthesis. Using surgical cement, the prosthetic is joined to the bone. Stitches or surgical staples are used to seal the incision. To remove fluid, a drain could be inserted into the wound. It will be covered with a sterile dressing and bandage. On another knee, a similar surgery is carried out.

The patient will be carefully monitored at the hospital for an additional two to three days following the procedure. A physiotherapist will assist the patient in regaining good range of motion and muscle strength. In case of pain, the patient is advised to take painkillers. He must avoid falling since external shock can harm the healing joint. It will take the patient six weeks to fully recover.

Mr. K. Rama Krishna from East Godavari, underwent a Bilateral Knee Replacement Surgery, under the supervision of Dr. Preshith Gaddam, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad.
