What is chemoport insertion?
A chemoport insertion is a surgical procedure in which a small, implantable device (chemoport) is placed under the skin, usually in the chest, and connected to a catheter leading to a major blood vessel. This provides a reliable and long-term intravenous access point for administering medications and drawing blood, commonly used in chemotherapy and other treatments. Frequent needle sticks for infusions and blood draws can cause discomfort and vein damage. To minimize this, a chemoport allows direct access to large veins, reducing stress for patients. Chemoports can be single or multi-port, enabling access to different veins through one or more catheters.
