What is Piles Laser Treatment?
The goal of this surgery is to utilize the laser energy to shrink the enlarged blood vessels that are causing severe bleeding or pain, known as hemorrhoids, which are found inside or around the anus and rectum. However, it is crucial to realize that surgery is only advised to remove multiple hemorrhoids or when other measures, like dietary changes or other therapeutic approaches, have been unsuccessful. Pile surgery is also known as hemorrhoid surgery.
The surgeon employs a method known as laser cauterization to shrink the size of the enlarged hemorrhoids using heat energy. On the other hand, the surgeon may use a laser beam that is narrow enough to only target the hemorrhoid without harming the surrounding tissues. It is a quick-healing procedure that causes minimal bleeding.
We at Yashoda hospitals have advanced laser technique facilities for treating piles, such as laser cauterization, laser hemorrhoidoplasty, and hemorrhoidal laser procedure (HeLP).

Laser Piles Treatment: Pre-Op & Post-Op Care
Preparation:
- Rectal examinations are performed by the surgeon to identify the location of piles, followed by certain routine tests, including a complete blood picture & urine analysis.
- Diagnostic procedures such as sigmoidoscopy are employed to aid in visualizing the anus & rectum.
- Additionally, the patient is asked to refrain from social habits such as smoking that could interfere with the procedure and is instructed to fast for 8-12 hours.
During the procedure
- You will be administered local anesthesia to reduce the likelihood of experiencing pain during the procedure.
- A few tiny incisions are made around the anus.
- In the next steps, a proctoscope—a tube connected with a Doppler probe is inserted to locate the arteries supplying blood to the piles.
- Once the artery is identified, a laser fiber is guided through the same tube into the anus region to shrink and dissolve the piles by delivering precise laser energy.
Recovery:
- The patient may require no hospital stay & can return to their home on the same day within a few hours.
- Although they can return to their daily activities within a few days, the recovery period may vary from one individual to another; however, the ideal healing period ranges from 1 to 2 weeks.
Post-Op Care:
- Take antibiotics and painkillers as prescribed to prevent infection and ease discomfort, along with stool softeners to improve bowel movements.
- Take warm sitz baths (sitting in the warm water without adding salt or soap) for 10-15 minutes to ease anal pain & discomfort in the anal region.
- Stay hydrated by drinking adequate water to prevent constipation or straining while passing stools.
- Follow the dietary recommendations, such as fiber-rich foods, including fruits, vegetables, & whole grains, & avoid eating spicy foods.
- Refrain from straining yourself sitting on the toilet for too long.
- However, if you notice symptoms like a high fever, swelling, or redness at the incision site, you can get in touch with your doctor for a better recovery.
