What is Laser liposuction?
Laser-assisted liposuction, commonly known as laser lipolysis, represents a significant advancement in body contouring and fat removal. It is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses focused laser energy to liquefy localized fat deposits before they are gently suctioned out, offering a sculpted appearance with distinct advantages over traditional liposuction methods. It is not a weight-loss solution, but rather a body-sculpting tool for individuals near their ideal weight who struggle with stubborn fat pockets that are resistant to diet and exercise.
The core principle of laser liposuction is the use of thermal energy to specifically target and destroy the fat cells. The procedure typically begins with the administration of anesthesia to numb the area, preparing the patient, and making an incision, laser delivery, fat liquefaction and coagulation, fat removal, and then tightening the skin.
The best candidates for laser liposuction are generally healthy adults who are within 25 pounds of their goal weight and have localized areas of fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise. They should have good skin elasticity, which allows skin to contract smoothly over the treated area.
Laser liposuction is effective in contouring various parts of the body that include the abdomen and flanks, thighs, hips and buttocks, upper arms, neck and chins, and knees and ankles.
Types of laser liposuction
Different techniques of laser liposuction may be used depending on the location of the fat and the amount of fat that is included. which are generally of two main types: minimally invasive and non-invasive
- Minimally invasive laser liposuction is a type of laser liposuction procedure that requires small incisions to insert a laser fiber below the skin. The laser heats and liquifies the fat cells, which are then removed by a cannula. Minimally invasive laser lipo also tightens the skin by stimulating the production of collagen. Common sub-types include
- Smart Lipo – A leading system, Smart Lipo makes use of laser with multiple wavelengths to melt fat cells, making them easier to remove. This technique is very useful in fat removal and provides skin-tightening benefits.
- Cool Lipo – A method used to treat more delicate areas of the body, such as the neck and arms.
- Micro-laser liposuction – A procedure that makes use of minimal incisions and is suitable for removing small amounts of fat.
- Non-invasive laser liposuction is a liposuction surgical procedure that does not require incisions or anesthesia. In this technique, a laser applicator is placed on the skin surface, and the laser energy penetrates the skin cells to target fat cells. The laser energy causes fat cells to break down, which are then naturally eliminated from the body. This technique of non-invasive laser liposuction requires multiple sessions to see the results, and there is no downtime following this procedure. The common subtype is
- SculpSure – A non-invasive laser system that uses controlled heating to disrupt the fat cells.
