What is Appendectomy?
Appendix surgery is the removal of the appendix, a tiny, finger-shaped pouch on the right side of the abdomen, due to its swollen & inflamed condition.
The simplest and fastest treatment for appendicitis is an appendectomy, which also helps to prevent potentially fatal side effects like abscess and peritonitis. The primary indications of appendix surgery include an infected appendix where it is suspected to rupture and cause serious complications.
Types of Appendix Surgery:
- Open appendectomy: In this procedure, the affected appendix is removed by making a single, large abdominal incision, which is then carefully sealed.
- Laparoscopic appendectomy: In this procedure, an appendix is removed through small incisions, guided by a thin, long tube containing a camera.
