What is Adhesiolysis?
Adhesiolysis is a minimally invasive procedure used to release or remove scar bands that form on organs or between organs and tissues such as the abdomen, pelvis, and joint spaces due to any prior abdominal surgical procedures, infections, or medical conditions such as Crohn’s disease, pelvic inflammatory disease, etc. These scar bands can impair various body functions, such as the ability to move, reproduce, and digest food.
Types of Adhesiolysis:
- Open Adhesiolysis: In this technique, a single but large incision is made in the abdomen to access the adhesions.
- Laparoscopic Adhesiolysis: Using a few tiny incisions, this technique allows for the precise removal of adhesions by inserting a tiny tube with a camera and surgical instruments.
