About the Doctor

Dr Viswesvaran Balasubramanian is widely regarded amongst the best and reputed clinical and interventional pulmonologists in the country. He is also the course director of basic and advanced interventional pulmonology fellowship and has trained many national and international candidates.

He has undergone dedicated training and acquired the skills to perform basic and advanced bronchoscopy, which includes flexible bronchoscopy, transbronchial cryo lung biopsies, endobronchial biopsy, endobronchial ultrasound (linear & radial), pleuroscopy, foreign body extraction, and interventions such as airway stent placements, electrocautery, dilation, and glue therapy. He has performed thousands of bronchoscopies and EBUS and is considered a pioneer in field of interventional pulmonology.

He has also undergone extensive training in the management of sleep disorders, such as level 1 polysomnography and other levels of sleep study; positive airway pressure therapy in OSA, COPD, obesity hypoventilation syndrome, neuromuscular disorders, and other sleep-disordered breathing disorders. He has also been awarded a gold medal in a fellowship on sleep medicine conducted by ISDA.

Dr Viswesvaran Balasubramanian is also trained in management of critically ill respiratory patients, patients requiring ventilator management and has special interest in management of patients requiring advanced life support systems like ECMO ( Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation ). He is also actively involved in management of lung transplantation patients.

He is an invited faculty at various national and international conferences and has been awarded the best pulmonologist of the year by ‘ Economic Times’ and ‘ Outlook’ magazines. His achievements are also featured as cover story in Silicone India magazine and is regarded amongst the best in field of Pulmonary medicine.

He underwent special training in the management of allergic disorders and ABPA with hands-on training in allergy testing (skin prick test) from India’s premier institute for allergic disorders, the Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute.

His skills lie in the management of COPD, asthma, bronchiolitis, bronchiectasis, tuberculosis, infectious disease, ILD (DPLD), ABPA, vasculitis, pulmonary vascular disorders, occupational lung disease, pleural and mediastinal disorders, malignancies of the lung and pleura, and patients of pulmonary rehabilitation.
