Laparoscopic segmentectomy was defined as the complete removal of the Couinaud’s segment. The laparoscopic approach was aided by the use of intraoperative ultrasonography for each segment and the placement of intercostal trocars to expose the root of the right hepatic vein for segmentectomy VII and VIII.
Although Laparoscopic Segmentectomy is feasible and has become an essential surgical technique for minimizing functional liver volume loss without reducing curability, further technical advancements are required to improve resection accuracy, particularly in the superior/posterior segments.
In general, recovery from laparoscopic or robotic surgery is faster. A patient can recover at home for two to four weeks, but it will take six to eight weeks to resume normal activities.
Mrs. Nazma Khatun from Dhaka underwent Laparoscopic Segmentectomy Liver VI & VII for Atypical Hemangioma at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. M. Manisegaran, Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist-Minimal Access Surgery, Bariatric, Metabolic & Robotic Surgery
