Patient Testimonial for Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy

Testimonial by Mr. M. Srinivas

Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is a type of bariatric surgery used to treat obesity. It is a minimally invasive procedure in which a large portion of the stomach is removed, leaving a narrow tube, or “sleeve,” in its place. This limits the amount of food that can be consumed at one time, resulting in weight loss. It is an excellent choice for people who are severely obese and have failed to lose weight through diet and exercise alone.

A laparoscope, which is a thin tube with a camera and light at the end, is used to perform the procedure. The surgeon inserts the laparoscope through several small incisions in the abdomen. The stomach is then divided into two sections, with the larger section removed. The remaining stomach is then stapled together to form a narrow tube, or “sleeve.”

LSG is a safe and effective weight loss procedure that can assist people in losing up to 60% of their excess body weight. It also lowers the risk of obesity-related health issues like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea. Complications may include bleeding, infection, and stomach leakage. In rare cases, the stomach may fail to heal properly, resulting in “stomal stenosis.” This can cause nausea, vomiting, and swallowing difficulties.

Mr. M. Srinivas from Khammam successfully underwent Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. M. Manisegaran, Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist-Minimal Access Surgery, Bariatric, Metabolic & Robotic Surgery.
