Patient Testimonial for Total Knee Replacement Surgery

Testimonial by Mr. Gaddam Ravi

Knee replacement, also called knee arthroplasty or total knee replacement (TKR), is a surgical procedure that replaces parts of injured or worn-out knee joints. During the surgery, damaged bones and cartilage are replaced with artificial joints called prostheses. This surgery is recommended for patients with severe arthritis or a severe knee injury.

TKR is a major procedure that is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes about 1 to 2 hours. During the procedure, the surgeon makes an incision over the knee, removes diseased and damaged bone and cartilage while leaving healthy bone intact, and places the implants. Most knee replacements can be expected to last at least 15 to 20 years and provide pain relief, improved mobility, and a better quality of life. As with any surgery, there are risks associated with TKR, including blood clots, nerve damage, and an increased risk of infection.

Depending on the patient’s age and overall health, recovery from knee replacement surgery can take several weeks or months. Following surgery, the patient is advised to undergo physical therapy to help regain strength and mobility in the replaced knee joint. Pain relievers may also be prescribed to help with any discomfort experienced during the recovery process. Most patients can resume their normal activities within a few months with proper care and rehabilitation.

Mr. Gaddam Ravi from Hanmakonda successfully underwent Total Knee Replacement (Right Leg) at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, under the supervision of Dr. Manoj Chakravorthy, Consultant Orthopedic Joint Replacement & Arthroscopic Surgeon.
