Patient Testimonial for Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant

Testimonial by Mr. Chandrakanta Naik

Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a form of cancer in which white blood cells called lymphocytes proliferate and develop abnormally, resulting in enlarged lymph nodes and overgrowth all over the body. Allogeneic bone marrow transplant (allo-BMT) is a type of treatment for HL that involves replacing the patient’s damaged bone marrow with healthy bone marrow from a donor.

Allogeneic BMT is typically considered for patients with relapsed or refractory Hodgekin’s Lymphoma, meaning the cancer has returned or is not responding to standard treatments. The procedure involves using high doses of chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy to destroy the cancer cells and the patient’s own bone marrow, followed by infusion of the donor’s healthy bone marrow. This allows the new bone marrow to produce healthy blood cells and help restore the immune system.

Recovery may involve physical and emotional challenges, such as fatigue, pain, and difficulty with daily activities. Patients should follow the doctor’s instructions and adopt a healthy lifestyle. Complete recovery can take several months to a year.

Mr. Chandrakanta Naik from Odisha, underwent Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma under the supervision of Dr. Ganesh Jaishetwar, Consultant Hematologist, Hemato-Oncologist & Bone Marrow Transplant Physician , Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad.
