Percutaneous Endoscopic Lumbar Discectomy (PELD) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat herniated discs in the lumbar spine, which can cause lower back pain, leg pain, and numbness or weakness in the legs. The procedure is typically performed when conservative treatments such as physical therapy or medication have failed to provide relief. PELD aims to remove the portion of the herniated disc that is pressing on nearby nerves, relieving pain and improving function. During the procedure, the surgeon makes a small incision in the skin and inserts a thin tube called an endoscope into the spine.
