Vertebroplasty surgery is a minimally invasive procedure performed to treat painful vertebral compression fractures caused by osteoporosis, trauma, or spinal tumours. The procedure involves inserting a needle into the fractured vertebra and injecting medical-grade bone cement, which stabilises the bone and restores spinal strength.
Vertebroplasty is usually performed under local anaesthesia with sedation or sometimes general anaesthesia, typically taking about 30 to 60 minutes per vertebra. Most patients experience significant pain relief within 24–48 hours and recover within a few days, with improved mobility and quality of life.
