What is Earlobe Repair?
This surgery is done to correct the appearance of the earlobe, which is affected either due to a birth defect or due to any other cause, such as wearing an earring for a long time, that results in an earlobe injury (spilt, torn, or stretched earlobe).
Types of Lobuloplasty procedures
In most cases, a simple stitch is sufficient for small splits. After the split’s edges are cleaned, they are sewn back together. However, there are other types of techniques, such as Z plasty and flaps (filling the gap of earlobes with a skin flap created from other areas, called the donor site). Preparation for Lobuloplasty
Before performing the lobuloplasty, certain tests, such as ECG, urinalysis, & CBP, are performed to understand the overall health of the patient, especially the infection status, as it affects the surgical procedure. Furthermore, the patient is asked to stop taking a few medications & make their earlobe ready for surgery, removing earrings or any jewelry.
During the Lobuloplasty Procedure
Once in the procedure room, you will be administered anesthesia, followed by marking the areas to be repaired on the earlobe. The earlobe is repaired by making an incision, adding skin flaps or removing the excess skin, and realigning the tissue. Finally, the incisions are closed using the sutures, & a small dressing is placed over the stitches to promote the healing process.
Recovery After Earlobe Repair
The lobuloplasty or ear lobe repair procedure nearly takes 30-60 minutes, & the patient can leave the hospital in a few hours. Although the patient might return to their work in a week, the recovery time can vary from individual to individual, usually ranging from 4-6 weeks, and they might experience certain bowel irregularities during the recovery period.
