What is Lipoma Removal?
Fatty masses known as lipomas form beneath your skin; developed on arms, shoulders, legs, and back, etc., are typically harmless and non-cancerous. Lipoma surgery is the procedure that involves the removal of those fatty masses by making simple incisions.
Types of Lipoma Treatments:

Lipoma Removal: Pre-Op & Post-Op Care
Before Lipoma Removal
Before the lipoma procedure, you may be advised to fast for a specific period. Also, certain diagnostic tests, such as MRI, ultrasound, and CT scans, are performed to understand the location & depth of lipomas. Certain medications, such as blood thinners & NSAIDs, have to be avoided for a few days before surgery.
During Lipoma Excision
Once in the procedure room, you will be administered local or general anesthesia, depending on the size of the lipomas. These lipomas, or the fatty masses, are removed by making incisions in your skin, followed by closing the incision with stitches. The lipoma can further be sent to the laboratory for analysis.
Lipoma Surgery Recovery
Age, patient’s general health, size, & location of the lipomas all affect the recovery period from lipoma surgery. After surgery, you can return home the same day. During the recovery process, you may experience symptoms like pain & swelling at the incison site, which get better in a few days.
After Lipoma Treatment
Keep the incision clean, drink enough liquids, take prescribed medication, and adhere to activity restrictions. Attend follow-up appointments for monitoring and guidance.
