FAQ's

C-sections are categorized based on the urgencies of the mother, and categories are as follows: Emergency when there is an immediate threat to life, Urgent where there is a risk of maternal or foetal compromisation, Scheduled when there is an early delivery indicated, and Elective when the delivery timings suit the mother or the medical team.

Ideally, a mother shall remain in the hospital for 3-4 days after the delivery, where the surgeon encourages the mother to spend some quality time with the baby, gain some well-rested sleep, and have assistance with nursing the baby.

Regional (spinal or epidural) anaesthesia is highly preferred, as it is safer for the baby and the mother, allowing the mother to stay wide awake and partake in the birthing process while limiting drug exposure to the baby.

In the first five days of postpartum care, the mother requires complete rest. The next five days allow a gradual increase in performing local activities while refraining from heavy or strenuous activities. The last five days revolve around the bed, where the mother is allowed to return to her daily routine while simultaneously avoiding any form of overexertion.

You must always seek help with daily tasks, meals, and childcare; get as much rest as possible; take prescribed pain medication from your doctor; pay attention to proper wound care; and perform pelvic floor exercises daily. Avoid heavy lifting or strenuous activities, driving, tampons, and intercourse at all costs for 2-3 weeks.

Usually, it depends on several factors, such as the severity of the tear, the mother's physiology, the level of postpartum care given, and any possible infections. Typically smaller tears will resolve within 2 weeks, whereas larger tears demand stitches and may heal around 4-6 weeks.
