Common symptoms include blurred or double vision, dryness, redness, irritation, headaches, and neck or shoulder pain from poor posture. The most effective prevention is the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something about 20 feet away for 20 seconds and blink frequently to keep your eyes lubricated. Improve your workspace by reducing glare, positioning the monitor slightly below eye level at about 20–28 inches away, and increasing font size or adjusting brightness for comfort. Make habits like frequent blinking, taking regular screen-free breaks, and using artificial tear drops if your eyes feel dry. Some people also use anti-reflective or blue-light-filtering glasses or screen filters to reduce potential retinal exposure, though evidence on long-term harm is still limited. If symptoms persist despite these changes, see an eye doctor for a vision check and possible updated glasses or a computer-specific prescription.
