Hyderabad, 21st June, 2025: Marking a historic milestone for Indian healthcare, Yashoda Hospitals successfully hosted the country’s largest International Conference on “AI in Healthcare: Revolutionizing Care & Enhancing Lives” today at its Hitec City campus. The full-day event brought together over 1000 participants from across India and around the world—including clinicians, researchers, healthcare leaders, policymakers, and AI experts—who explored the future of compassionate, tech-enabled healthcare.

The event was inaugurated by Shri D. Sridhar Babu, Hon’ble Minister for IT & Industries, Government of Telangana, who emphasized the transformative role of AI in public health and citizen services. He said, “AI is revolutionizing healthcare through precision surgery, faster drug discovery, and wider access. Telangana has already become a prominent medical hub of India and is committed to being at the forefront of healthcare innovation. Platforms like this are critical to building a future-ready health system that is tech-enabled, patient-centered, and inclusive.”

“Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a promise of the future. It is actively reshaping how healthcare is delivered today. With more advancements in AI in healthcare, it will revolutionize the Indian healthcare industry and enhance the lives of our people. AI is set to transform the entire healthcare journey, right from diagnosis and surgery to drug discovery and rural health access,” the Minister remarked.

Shri Gorukanti Ravinder Rao, Founder & Chairman of Yashoda Group of Hospitals, shared, “AI is not here to replace doctors—it is here to empower them. At Yashoda, we are committed to investing in technologies that amplify the human touch in medicine. These technologies are empowering surgeons with enhanced accuracy and stability. AI-powered robots act as extensions of the human hand, filtering out tremors and responding instantly to visual feedback. The result will be shorter procedures, fewer complications, and faster healing for patients,” G. Ravinder Rao said.

In his keynote address, Dr. Michael D. Howell, Google Chief Clinical Officer, highlighted the importance of integrating AI into clinical decision-making with transparency, accountability, and empathy for the clinician-patient relationship. He said, “AI will drastically accelerate drug discovery. Traditionally, developing a new drug can take 10–12 years and millions of dollars. Today, AI algorithms can analyze massive datasets—from clinical trials to genomics—to identify drug candidates in months rather than years. These advances not only speed up treatment availability but also make personalized medicine more feasible.”

Echoing this vision, Dr. Pavan Gorukanti, Director, Yashoda Hospitals, said, “This conference reflects our aspiration to bridge global innovation with frontline healthcare challenges. AI must serve not just urban hospitals but also reach rural India.”

“In diagnostics, AI is proving invaluable. Machine learning models in radiology can scan and flag abnormalities in medical images at remarkable speeds, improving early detection of conditions like cancer, stroke, and internal bleeding. In pathology, AI is assisting pathologists in examining biopsy slides to identify even rare or subtle disease markers, leading to quicker, more accurate diagnoses. AI is also helping bridge the urban-rural healthcare divide. AI-powered telehealth platforms enable real-time consultations with specialists across geographies. In cutting-edge cases, surgeons can perform telesurgeries with robotic assistance from hundreds or even thousands of kilometers away,” Dr. Pavan said.

Dr. Chinnababu Sunkavalli, Robotic Surgical Oncologist & Clinical Director at Yashoda Hospitals, Hitec City, concluded the event, saying, “This landmark gathering marks the beginning of a national movement—to align clinical excellence with ethical technology in a way that is inclusive, scalable, and truly human-centered. We are proud to lead this from Hyderabad.”

“Surgery is where we’re seeing some of the most visible, immediate impacts. Smart scalpels embedded with sensors now help detect cancerous tissue in real time. Robotic systems guided by AI offer more precision than ever before, even allowing for complex microsurgeries that once required large incisions and long recoveries.”

Dr. Chinna Babu envisions hospitals evolving into centers of continuous research and care. “By 2035, AI will make real-time clinical trial matching possible,” he said. “Every hospital could become a hub for discovery, accelerating how new therapies are developed and delivered.” More importantly, he emphasized, the greatest legacy of AI will be deeply human: “AI’s true gift to healthcare is time. By automating repetitive tasks, we give doctors more time to care, to connect, and to heal. It brings empathy back to the center of medicine—and ensures that no patient, no matter how remote, is left behind,” said Dr. Chinna Babu.

The Startup Innovation Pavilion—curated by Yashoda Hospitals’ Innovation Cell in collaboration with RICH—provided a hands-on showcase of cutting-edge AI technologies built for real-world clinical use.

This International Conference on AI featured an exceptional lineup of global and national thought leaders, including Dr. Michael D. Howell, Chief Clinical Officer, Google Health; Mr. Chandu Thota, Vice President, Google; Mr. J. Satyanarayana, Former IT Secretary of India; Prof. P.J. Narayanan, Director, IIIT; Dr. Chandrasekhar Ranga, Joint Drug Controller General of India; Dr. Chinnababu Sunkavalli, Surgical Oncologist & Clinical Director, Yashoda Hospitals; and Gorukanti Dheeraj, Director of Yashoda Hospitals, among others.

Attendees engaged in a dynamic series of sessions covering critical themes such as Diagnostic Intelligence and Predictive Analytics, AI-Enabled Personalized Oncology, AI-Driven Robotic Precision Surgery, Innovation in Pharma and Hospital Operations, Ethical AI, Public Health and Policy, Startup Spotlights, and Industry Collaborations.
