FAQ’S
What doctor deals with the skull?
If the head injury is severe, a neurotrauma specialist may be consulted. Patients can be seen by a neurologist, neurosurgeon, or neuropsychologist for follow-up treatment and assessment, depending on their needs. If there is some cause to expect complications, imaging tests (MRI or CT scans) may be recommended.
What is skull surgery called?
A craniotomy is a surgical procedure that exposes the brain by removing a portion of the skull’s bone. The bone flap, which is a part of bone, is removed with specialised tools. After the brain surgery, the bone flap is temporarily removed and then replaced.
What is a skull base surgery?
Skull base surgery is performed to remove a tumour or other growth from the base of the skull, also known as the bottom. Endoscopic skull base surgery, also known as minimally invasive skull base surgery, is a surgical technique that allows doctors to perform this delicate procedure through the nose.
Is skull base surgery a major surgery?
In most cases, this form of surgery does not require a large incision. A surgeon can make a small incision inside the nose to enable a neurosurgeon to remove a growth using an endoscope, a thin lighted tube.
How long does skull base surgery take?
The duration of surgery varies depending on the severity of the situation. Surgery usually takes two hours from the moment anaesthesia is given in normal cases. Cases that are more complicated which take four to six hours to complete.
